Our Story

The Skartvedt family has a long-standing tradition in the cattle industry, beginning in Iowa and continuing in Texas. When Danelle’s family history with Wagyu cattle combined with Jim’s expertise and passion for ruminant nutrition, it created the perfect foundation for a family-run Wagyu business, 5 Bar 1 Meat. Today, every member of the Skartvedt family contributes to the business in some way. Over the years, all five siblings could be found working together, tackling chores and feeding the cattle. Now, as some have grown and gone to college, the eldest two are still a familiar sight in the barn whenever they return home for the weekend.

Animal husbandry and land stewardship are values that the Skartvedts hold in the highest regard. They are committed to ensuring their animals are raised with care and respect, with every person involved trained to uphold the safety and well-being of the herd. The Skartvedt children have grown up learning the importance of treating livestock with gentle, respectful mannerisms. They have also gained valuable insights into proper feeding and nutrition, thanks to Jim’s 17+ years of experience at a successful feeding operation.
